Homework February 23-27, 2009 Black History Project

There will be no homework this week. I want the students working to finish their black history projects which are due this Friday.

Black History Report and Research Quilt

Your child is to select an important and influential African American that has contributed to our country. They are to research them with books from the library and information off the internet. All of the research and actual report needs to be done at home. If there are extenuating circumstances, I will allow them to do some research here but during recess time.

What to do? They will look up important information about their person. You can use the provided template to help with looking up the information. They need to turn this information into a paper 1-2 pages in length telling us about their person, making sure to include why they are important and what they did.

Presentation: The students can choose how they would like to present their information. Some suggestions might include a poster, diorama, dressing up like the person, etc. It is their choice as to how to present.

Last activity will take place in class. We are going to make a quilt where they will choose the most important information to put on the square and then put them together to make a research quilt.

On Monday the 9th, I want to know who you are doing.
Then on Tuesday the 17th, I am going to check your research. So please bring what you have up until that point so I can help if necessary.

The report is due on Friday, February 27th and the presentations will begin on March 2.
